The Christian celebration of the Passover was a blessed time of fellowship.
On the Wednesday of Holy Week, members of the Cathedral gathered to celebrate the Passover. The service is based on the Seder as formalised by priests in Jerusalem in AD 70, which would be very similar to what Jesus celebrated with his disciples the night he was betrayed. The service, put together by David Lloyd-Jones, included a commentary explaining the Christian significance of each aspect of the meal, showing how Jesus was the fulfilment of the prophecy as the true Passover Lamb. As one attendee said, it was an evening which gave a "visceral" understanding of the Last Supper.
The event was a true team effort. Lilitha Dyantyi, Erica Hart, Leela Pienaar and June Venn cooked an incredible meal and Caitlin Balmer was in charge of laying the tables and the decorations and did an incredible job, as you can see from the photos. Andiswa Mata sold the tickets and dealt with the financial side, Glyn Lloyd-Jones created the service booklet from his father's notes and Jessica Lloyd-Jones did much of the planning and co-ordination. The Mothers' Union provided a very welcome contribution of all the vegetables.
At the event, Dean Mzi led the evening with aplomb, with Jessica providing commentary and other members of the gathered participating in various roles, notably Jayden Brand as our token youngest person acting in as the "child".
Thank you to everyone for their valuable contributions, and for Jayden Brand and Peter Black for their photos.
